USH 151 (Beaver Dam Bypass) Dodge County, Project IDs: 1111-09-01
For this project, DAAR has been operating as a sub-consultant to MSA for roadway design assistance. The project is a 4.66-mile pavement replacement with a reconfigured interchange design at CTH DE. Additionally, 8 bridges were raised to provide adequate clearance over the Union Pacific Railroad and other roadways within the project limits. Horizontal and vertical alignments were improved to meet current FDM standards. Extensive coordination with the Union Pacific Railroad Company was important for the success of this project. WisDOT Southwest Region, I.D. 5667-00-02, STH 138 (Hill Road Park Street), Dane County
Design Services for the reconstruction of .75 miles of STH 138 from Hill Road to Park Street, at the USH 14 interchange in the Village of Oregon that will tie into the new USH 14 corridor. STH 138 is a divided 4 lane urban section tapering into a two-lane rural section, while USH 14 is a 2 lane rural expressway that widens into a 4-lane divided rural freeway to the north. Traffic volumes are extremely high for this interchange, caused by commuters traveling north into Madison. This is creating severe backups on both USH 14 and STH 138. A dual left turn lane is proposed on EB STH 138 that will provide sufficient storage for the morning commuters. This will enter new diamond style interchange ramps that will be long enough to allow for smooth merges onto the USH 14 Mainline. The nearby residents would like to have the northbound congestion alleviated for the morning peak hours. This project will address those concerns in the interim, but will accommodate the future geometry of USH 14 expansion in 2012. Extensive public involvement activities and Coordination with local officials will be vital to the success of this project. Pavement structure will be concrete, consistent over the entire length of the project limits. The project includes storm sewer, electrical components, signalization of the interchange, and will be constructed under traffic using lane closures, temporary roadways and staging.

STH 23 Freeway Designation and Corridor Preservation Study, Sheboygan County, Project IDs: 1440-19-00
The purpose of this project is to identify the existing and anticipated future roadway conditions along the WIS 23 Corridor from CTH P (Plymouth) to WIS 32 (Sheboygan Falls). WIS 23 serves as a main thoroughfare between Fond du Lac and Sheboygan. As the communities along this segment of roadway continue to grow and develop, WisDOT anticipates that traffic and demand for access to businesses and residences along will also increase. Although no construction is scheduled at this time, it is important to preserve the right of way to avoid costly future acquisitions as the development continues in the corridor.

STH 82 (CTH D La Farge), Vernon County, Project ID: 5711-03-34
The project consisted of a bridge deck overlay and deck replacement along STH 82. The bridge approaches for the deck replacement were reconstructed as well. Both bridges cross the Otter Creek and are located within 0.72-miles of each other. Upgrading substandard vertical alignment components was a challenge, considering the anticipated bridge approach project limits. A temporary bypass was constructed to handle traffic during construction of the bridge deck replacement.

IH-90 Bridge Rehabilitations, West Salem East County Line, La Crosse County, Project IDs: 1071-07-73/75
DAAR Engineering provided structure design services for this project. The roadway design was performed by the WisDOT Southwest Region La Crosse. Close coordination with the Region was required to ensure consistency in the plans and construction documents. The structure work included concrete overlays on three IH 90 bridges, a concrete overlay on an IH 90 overpass, and a deck replacement on an IH 90 overpass. The superstructure was raised along with the deck replacement work to increase the vertical clearance over IH 90. This work required modification of the existing abutments and pier.

USH 41 (Orange Lane Glory Road), Brown County, Project IDs: 1133-06-00/71/72
For this project, DAAR has been operating as a sub-consultant to HNTB for roadway and structure design assistance. DAAR received a 1.42-mile portion of the USH 41 freeway, which included the CTH F/Scheuring Road Interchange. The project included the reconstruction of 5 bridges and 1 reinforced concrete box culvert as well as an extension of another reinforced concrete box culvert. Coordination required with corridor teams included roundabout analysis, ITS Architecture, structures, storm water, and environmental impacts. Deficient horizontal and vertical curves were corrected to meet desirable department standards.

STH 23 (Green Lake CTH A Glen Arcade Rd.), Green Land & Fond du Lac County, Project IDs: 1430-00-04/74, 1431-02-02/72
This 5-mile reconstruction of STH 23 includes a new pavement structure, intersection improvements, re-alignment and/or combining of some public road access points, and service road construction. Additions or upgrades of left turn lanes, auxiliary lanes, and passing lanes are also included in this project. The bridge over the Puchyan River will be rehabilitated and the deck widened. The box culvert over the Silver Creek may require widening to accommodate a wider roadway footprint and taper. An extensive deficiency analysis was completed for this roadway, identifying horizontal and vertical deficiencies, as well as safety concerns.

USH 14/STH 138 (STH 138 STH 92), Dane County, Project IDs: 5567-00-02/72,
5155-04-03/74
This 4-mile, 2-lane new roadway includes the expansion of USH 14 from STH 138 to STH 92, new interchange at USH 14 and STH 138, and the reconstruction of STH 138 from Hill Road to Park Street in the Village of Oregon. Right-of-way for this project was purchased in 1966 due to anticipated expansion; therefore no right-of-way purchase is needed. This project will tie into the 4-lane, USH 14 roadway capacity expansion that is to be built in 2008. Commuters traveling north into Madison from STH 138 produce high traffic volumes expressing the need for capacity expansion and new interchange.

WisDOT Southwest Region, I.D. 5411-02-02, Bartillon Drive Extension, Dane County
Design Services for the Bartillon Drive extension project in the City of Madison. The loss of a high traveled left-turn lane at Rieder Road created the need for this project design. This project included a new urban two-lane roadway; new storm sewer system; pond and wetland relocation; intersection improvements; extensive coordination with the Department of Natural Resources and the Dane County Regional Airport; and evaluation of multiple alternatives. Areas of difficulty surpassed throughout the design process involved extensive drainage analysis including limiting wetland relocation and right-of-way acquisition as well as gaining informed public consent for the proposed project.
